7 – Home Schooling Doesn’t Mean You Have To Run A School

Some of you may be thinking, “Oh my goodness, how am I going to teach my child from 9am to 3pm?!”.

And we’re here to say that that is definitely not what you need to do all day every day.

There are tutors available to help you with homework, and there are tutors to help you with strategies of how to teach your child in a particular area.

Something that I’ve come across is I work with a girl that needs a lot of help with spelling. Her mum and dad actually sat and watched me do a tutoring session with her about how to teach the awareness of sounds and blends and letters. So I think it’s really important to remind parents that we’re all in this together, and you don’t have to put a ton of pressure on yourself.

I was reading an article about a homeschooling parent who actually said that in general she does about three hours a day because if you think about a regular school, you have; all your lunch breaks, you have your specialist lessons, you have kids interrupting, you have meetings that people are away from. There’s all kinds of different things that happen during a school day, including assemblies! So when all of those things are taken out of the picture, your time to do schooling is up to you.

But know that there’s lots of help and there’s lots of resources available. You should also know that there’s lots of resources that only teachers have access to and only people like me have access to.
It’s important to have a lot of patience with yourself and realize that all of the memes on Facebook and all of the social media posts are shared because everyone is going through the same thing. And I’m here to tell you that you have a lot of help if you decide to hire a tutor.
