  • Renee - 25 year old Female   Last logged on 19-Jun-2019

Hello, My name is Renee and I am a friendly, reliable, and well-educated American currently living in Brunswick. I've spent two years traveling around Australia, but am now settling down long term. Therefore, I'm looking for a family that I can work with and feel a part of! I'm comfortable working with any age group and am happy to do some housekeeping/errands as well. I have babysat for two families in the U.S. Both situations were very long-term, as I like to bond with parents and children and develop close relationships. I have also worked in a multitude of other youth oriented jobs including university student mentoring and event planning, international high school student counselor, and middle school teacher's aide. All of these jobs are further detailed in my resume and I'm happy to interview or answer questions as needed.

  • Connor - 22 year old Male   Last logged on 19-Jun-2019

My name is Connor, I am a 22 year old Civil and Environmental Engineering student from Scotland. I am currently undertaking a 6 month exchange at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. I have finished my studies for the holidays so I am free during the day and evenings and looking for a job in childcare to keep me occupied. From the age of 16, I babysat for two familys on a a regular basis with the kids ranging from 5 to 12 years old. When I finished school I moved to New Zealand and worked at the prestigous Kingís College, Auckland as a Gap Tutor. My role included tutoring school children, from 10-18 years of age, coaching rugby and cricket as well as working in the boarding houses in the evenings. I took on the role of supervising Duke of Edinburgh exiditions whilst in New Zealand, one trip entailed looking after ten 13 year-old boys on a week long sailing expidition. For the last three summers I have worked at George Watsons College in Edinburgh, one of the largest schools in Europe, as a coach at the summer sports camp. In this role I am responsible for organising and supervising daily activities for the children, who range from 5 to 16 years of age. This is a job that lasted 6 weeks and many of the children returned weekly, which required us as coaches to keep activites and games different and new in order to make sure the children remained interested and engaged day to day. At the end of this camp I was voted as coach of the summer by the kids, although this may not be an official award, I was touched that they chose me and take it as a testement to my likeability. My experiences working with children have given me the skills necessary to communicare and interact with children of all ages. I am able to arrange and plan engaging and fun activites to keep all age groups happy and entertained. Outside of childcare I have also completed an internship with J.P. Morgan in their London office, working in their asset managment division. On a personal note, I am the eldest in a family of five childern and have always loved the company of my siblings whilst also being very protective and caring of them. I am a very active person and love getting out and about, so rest assured your children will be kept active and entertained. I have a Groodle dog at home in Scotland who is the heart and soul of our family and i have always loved dogs, therefore i would be very comfortable in the company of your pet dog too.

  • Claire - 51 year old Female   Last logged on 19-Jun-2019

I am a fit, healthy, non-smoking, fully vaccinated and reliable nanny who adores children. In addition to raising my now 25 year old engineer/mathematician daughter, I have experience as a nanny to children aged newborn to teens - including providing sole live in care, and hours as required care. I have been responsible for duties including meal planning & shopping, bathing, homework/educational games, park visits, playing sport with child/children, attending sports and kinder-concerts, organising birthday parties, swimming lessons, skateboarding lessons, surfing lessons, day to day adventures, nappy changes, washing, visiting grandparents, painting/art/crafts, toilet training, patting to sleep, giving cuddles, calming toddlers who experience [temporary] anxiety at separation, and settling night wake ups. I have provided such care to: * an Irish, now 3 year old beautiful, healthy and intelligent dear little premie [26-27 weeks' gestation] guy, whose parents later asked me to be their son's godmother and with whom I have become good friends. I initially assisted the new, quite younger and nervous mammy with the tiny guy and spent weekends looking after him so mammy could have some rest. I became close to the wee guy and he to me over time, and the parents felt comfortable to leave their precious son with me for weekends, while they took a break together. I would also care for him at night when both mammy and daddy worked, and I had the little guy overnight, including bathing, feeding, soothing when he woke through the night, and having loads of cuddles and snuggles. He is an absolute delight of a human being, very funny, and a fiercely determined wee man. Together, we would have many outdoor adventures through the days also (while mammy and daddy worked or were away) including kicking a football, collecting and throwing stones into the ocean to try to scare seagulls away (he was only 2!), swimming in the ocean, digging and building sandcastles and playing dinosaur games in the sand, collecting flowers for his mammy, walking (and chasing) his dog, and always with much singing, chatting and laughing. I taught him the English alphabet and to count and nursery rhymes before he was 18 months. He 'taught' me the theme from Star Wars (at 2!), about the Wizard of Oz and Dorothy and Toto being blown away (I'd read him the book, as did his mammy), and a few words in Irish, such as that he is a 'bold boy' sometimes. I was and am very fortunate to be in this little guy's life. * to three spirited boys aged 7, 4 and 2, in a live in capacity in London. I was responsible for the boys' care from morning to night - morning to morning, actually, and sometimes ended up with a sweaty big two year old head on my arm through the early hours of the morning. Each school morning, I would take the two bigger boys to school, and then take the 2 year old on daily adventures, which may have included trips to the park, trips to the library, or picnics, throwing bread to ducks, kicking a ball and playing pretend football games (which he always seemed to win), music and teaching the 2 year old songs such as 'We will rock you', (which amused his parents no end, as he only spoke Spanish when I first joined the household). We (Mr 2 and I) would collect the big boys from school and head up the road for a milkshake or afternoon tea. I would assist the boys with their homework, prepare dinner and feed the children, before bathing, night stories and tucking into bed. * to four magnificent children - a boy of 10, girl 8, boy 5, and boy 2. I had earlier cared for three of the children when they were babies (two of the children also, before Mr now 5 was born). I assisted their mummy day to day with all sorts of duties including full care of the children and also with housekeeping and gardening. At one stage, I had spent so much time in the garden that Miss then 2 thought that I lived somewhere in their garden and only appeared at times through the day. When Mr now 10 and Miss now 8 were 4 and 2 respectively, their mummy became desperately ill and was hospitalised in ICU. She contacted me and asked if I would assume responsibility for her children while she was sick, as she was being taken to hospital. I was honoured to be asked to care for her precious babies, who had never been away from their mummy. Their daddy was preoccupied and desperately worried about their mummy, whose health deteriorated quickly over the first 24 hours of hospitalisation. I moved into the family home, and took full care of the children as I knew their mummy would want. While it was a traumatic time for the family, the children were excellent, amazing actually, and the centre of my attention and love. I kept the children occupied with adventures and activities - including a 'pretend' cooking lesson - where they were not allowed to approach the oven but sat on little chairs about 6 foot away while I poured batter into a pan to make pikelets. They had helped make the batter. There was a lot of silliness and they found it hilarious. We also made banana bread together and the children squished in the bananas with their hands - a lovely tactile experience and very amusing. We visited grandparents, swam, filled water balloons and sent them rolling down a large hill in races, and generally ran ourselves ragged, but not to hysteria, each day. I toilet trained Miss 2 also. Mummy came home after about 4 weeks in hospital but was still very frail, so I stayed with the family for an additional 3 weeks to support the family. When Mr now 5 was born, the parents asked me to be his godmother. I adore those children and hope I will always be in their lives. I also have experience providing shorter term, more akin to babysitting, services to babies and toddlers, including when unwell, and to older children - including taking to school and collecting after school and assisting with homework, organising uniforms, playing basketball/football/cricket etc, providing dinner and supervising getting ready for bed. Ultimately, I have taken, and I am happy to take, responsibility for providing and managing anything that a child could need when the parents have been distracted by intervening situations, or just fatigue! I follow the directions of the parents and respect their wishes. I have endless patience with little people, and really just find children, especially babies, quite magical. My preference is to secure a great role caring for a 0 - 18 month old child or two, where I can become a trusted part of the childís life - as needed by the parents. I have several qualifications, unfortunately none of which are in child care areas. I have a working with children check, and national police check, and have completed first aid training for infants and children. Nannying is a much-welcomed change of full time/permanent career for me at this time. I have considerable experience with babies, and in nannying roles (a few of which are mentioned above). I genuinely adore children. Fortunately, they seem to like me too!

  • Magdalena - 29 year old Female   Last logged on 18-Jun-2019

Hello parents I am Magdalena, 28. I am a Polish girl living in Germany, Berlin. I came to Melbourne as a Work and Holiday visa holder for one year and I am looking for a job to call my second Melbourne home. I graduated from University of Wroclaw with a Master's Degree in English Methodology and Pedagogy. Therefore, I am an educator by profession. I have very good command of English language. Additionally, I speak German fluently and have a Bachelor degree in teaching German as a second language. I have a decent experience in working with kids 5 - 12 since I worked as an English private tutor teaching children age 6 -15 back in Poland. Moreover, having two lovely nieces myself helped me to develop my genuine love for kids. I enjoy cooking both traditional and healthy food. I would be happy to do prepare food for kids or make my favourite pierogis for the whole family. I am a neat person that is why I am willing to do some housework chores when necessary. I do not have a prior experience as a au pair or a nanny, however, I believe that I have all qualities needed not only to nurture and supervise children, but also to have fun and spend some quality time together. At the end, it's all about fun for children! Undoubtedly, as a young, creative and vigorous woman I am able to maintain great relationship with kids introducing discipline helping children to learn and have an active life. I am aware that au-pair's work is a great responsibility, yet, I feel very enthusiastic and sure about it. I am flexible and available throughout a week. I live in Brunswick so I would love to find a family nearby the area. I look forward to hearing from you. Best, Magdalena

  • Joanne - 24 year old Female   Last logged on 18-Jun-2019

I've been a Casual Nanny since I was studying my Arts degree at Melbourne University, majoring in Australian Indigenous Studies. Currently I work on contracted projects with various organisations that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and activists, that are usually part time roles 2 or 3 days per week, for a set number of months based on funding. In between projects and on my off days, I am lucky that I get to spend time reading, chatting, playing with and caring for children and young people. From a young age, I have always been that cousin that the aunties leave their children with, and then they have to peel their children away from me to take them home. For 2 years I volunteered at a local church youth group with children from grade 6 to grade 12, discussing questions about faith and religion. I organised weekly discussion questions and learnt how to identify and manage sensitive topics for young people. For the last 6 years I have volunteered at an Out of School Hours Learning Centre or Homework Club with young people from grade 5 to grade 12 from refugee and migrant backgrounds, organising homework schedules, supervising reading aloud, working on basic spelling, English literacy and numeracy. I also tutor several of the younger students per week, in a more 1 on 1 setting than Homework Club. You are more than welcome to speak to any of the parents of my current or former students. The first family I found through WeNeedANanny required school pick ups and basic homework support for a grade 5 and her grade 9 older sister, and providing after school snacks which I was happy to do. This girl was very shy and usually took a long time to warm up to new people, and her mother was very happy that we built trust and a strong bond quite quickly which helped her mum a lot when it came to getting homework done, and you're welcome to speak to her about that. Another family I recently looked after was a 1 and a half year girl and a 3 year old boy who I looked after while their mum worked from home. 6 months after I finished up with this family, apparently this little girl still calls out my name every time the doorbell rings, hoping its me! Her mum is happy to be my reference. I hope this gives you an indication of who I am and why I'm here, and what I'm looking for. For more stories and details about my flexible schedule, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hi I'm Brenna, I am a 20 year old student looking to make some extra money doing something that I really enjoy. I have been babysitting since early high school and have always found that I have got along well with children and have enjoyed the role of caregiver. Since high school I have had one regular nannying job and several casual jobs. I have also worked at Gymbaroo Brighton, where we ran early learning sessions for the ages 0-4 to encourage healthy and happy development in the pre-school years. In this coming year I am beginning a Social Science Psychology degree at RMIT university, from which I hope to specialise in developmental Psychology and find work in that area. For now though I am a reliable, enthusiastic babysitter/nanny, who is ready to keep up the rhythm of your home while finding the activities that your children like best.
